CAPTAIN CALLING

March 20, 2015 by Webmaster

New season = new challenges = be prepared

Well, the time is almost upon us to dig out the cricket bag from the garage, dust off the whites, oil the bat and turn the arm over in the nets. The new cricket season is nearly here!!

There will be some new faces on show this season for Fringford CC (a warm welcome to those newbies) and this coupled with a strong youth contingent, helped along by a few experienced (doddery) old blokes, should hopefully lead to some good, competitive cricket this summer.

Although the team finished safe from relegation at the end of last season, injuries, lack of availability and a certain lack of application in some quarters, led to a somewhat disappointing season and the skipper and committee have high hopes of raising performance levels this year.

As a team, let’s approach the season in a positive manner from the outset, starting with attending net sessions wherever possible and by communicating your availability to the “Major” at the earliest opportunity.

BE PREPARED

Pre match warm ups certainly added a percentage improvement to performance and it is my intention to carry on conducting these prior to both innings, so be prepared to limber up early.

A fines system will be run again this year (max £2.00), so be prepared to be critiqued (and fined accordingly) on your performance and antics, both on and off the field of play.

If you wish to show off your superhuman qualities and score 50’s and 100’s, or take match winning 5 wicket hauls, please be prepared to dig into your pocket and “get a jug in” for the mere mortals in the team, so they can toast your immortality and deity.

The serious reason behind all these points is that, at any level of sport, it is proven that a team that bonds, socialises and works hard for each other, both on and off the field, will remain motivated and perform to a higher standard, which, in a competitive division, may prove the extra factor between winning and losing (and I am sure no one likes the “L” word!!).

I look forward to seeing you all at the nets and then again on the hallowed ground at “Fringers”, asking for your support and commitment along the way, the aim being to make this a season to remember!!

Onwards and upwards

The season so far….

June 10, 2014 by Webmaster

New ShirtWell, after a disappointing start to the season, both weather wise and some poor team performances, Fringford CC bounced back yesterday to claim their first victory of the season, sporting the new look kit (many thanks to all our sponsors).

Torrential rain all morning looked as though it would scupper another Saturday of cricket, however, the sun came out at lunchtime and the ground staff got straight to work, doing a tremendous job to get the game started by 2:15pm.

The skipper lost the toss (as usual) and Westcott chose to bat on a dry wicket (well done the new covers!). However, the decision to bat first proved a little hasty as Royston Blake (5-26) and Shaun Foote (3-32) ripped through the Westcott top order and Steve Mitchell (2-5) mopped up the tail, leaving Westcott a mere 74 all out. Jonny Reid, Ian Hedley and JK all then chipped in with some runs to ease Fringford past the total for a comfortable win. Well done everyone and good luck to all playing in the cup game at Wootton & Boars Hill on Sunday.

Fringford reach the Final of the Buckingham Advertiser Cup

June 3, 2014 by Webmaster

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MIDWEEK TEAM WHO BEAT GAWCOTT LAST NIGHT IN A THRILLER.

In an unbelievable game, Gawcott batted first and thanks to great bowling by Zimbo who took amazing figures of 6 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs, ably assisted by Phil G who took 3 wickets, restricted Gawcott to 17 for 8. They then recovered to a total of 107.

Fringford started off quite well and were up with the scoring rate for a while, then we got bogged down due to some good bowling. AS WE ENTERED THE LAST COUPLE OF OVERS, IT LOOKED LOST, BUT THANKS TO SOME STRONG HITTING BY ZIMBO & THOMAS BACON WE WERE ALMOST THERE. When it came to the last ball of the last over we needed 5 to win. Thomas was facing and beyond all belief, he hit a magnificent 6 to win the game.
WELL DONE THOMAS. WHAT A HERO.

What a game. Well done everyone for sticking at it.

So make a date in your diary. Fringford are playing in The Buck Ad Cup Final at Buckingham Town ground on Monday 23rd June with a 6.30 start.
